Meet The Crew

First Mate, Craig Jervis has been fishing all his life. . . creeks, rivers, bays and open water. . . his first experience in saltwater was at 6 when he watched his 4 year-old sister catch the only fish. Craig’s been improving his game ever since!

Spending most of his life in Connecticut and Nashville, he visited Costa Rica for the first time in 1994, fishing on the Caribbean side. Deciding they liked the Pacific better, he and his wife, Marcia bought property in Uvita de Osa in 2000 and built their home on the side of a mountain in 2002. They’ve felt like Ticos ever since.

Honored and fortunate to be part of the local community, Craig has fished with Captain Javier for more than 20 years. Knowledgeable and hospitable, Craig strives to give Diablo guests the Costa Rican fishing trip they imagined. His great love and respect for the outdoors inspire him, daily.

Sometimes you fish for pleasure and sometimes, it’s the way you have food on the table. Native Costa Rican, Captain Javier Guzman grew up combining the two. From an early age he learned the techniques and gained the insights, only a local can possess. Along the way, he realized how much he enjoyed the sport.

Javier has lived in the Uvita area for 30 plus years. In addition to knowing the places locals fish, he pays attention to weather patterns, moon phases and natural phenomena. . .all in an effort to improve your experience. The comfort, safety and satisfaction of our passengers is at the top of his list. As with most Ticos, he has a great love and respect for his country.

Javier Guzman Chinchilla is a licensed Costa Rican Captain.

Nele is a valued part of the Diablo team. She is the wife of Captain Javier and will be the one to assist you with your booking and scheduling.
Michael Chevez frequently fills in as mate when Craig is not available. Cousin to Captain Javier, Michael is also a licensed biologist and guide who has logged countless hours on the water.
We went offshore fishing with Craig and Javier and had the amazing time. Craig and Javier are very experienced sports fishermen. They put us on the fish right away and got two mahi mahi at the same time. The larger one (approx 40lbs) swallowed both baits on two rods and the other one (20lbs) was on the third rod. They were catches of a lifetime. So glad we went fishing with them. On our way to the fishing spot we saw lots of sea turtle and dolphins. The dolphins swam with the boat for a bit which was a neat experience.
